Officially Deere and Company but more commonly known as John Deere the Moline, Illinois based company is one of the world’s premier agricultural vehicle and tool suppliers, well known for their agricultural and landscaping vehicles including the famous John Deere tractors.
The History of the Deere Company and John Deere Tractors – After facing bankruptcy in his native Vermont one John Deere headed to Illinois in 1836 to make a fresh start, opening a tool and repair shop in Grand Detour, IL. A blacksmith by trade Deere created small tools to sell in his store but when he came up with a steel plow in 1836 it was considered a real breakthrough. Previously farmers had been using wooden or iron plows that had problems with mid western soil, problems that the smooth steel plow did not.
It was not until 1912 though, when the Deere company had expanded into a thriving international farm implements and vehicles business that the first John Deere tractors were conceived. After a less than successful attempt art designing their own tractors then president William Butterworth engineered the buyout of the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company, who had been selling a Waterloo Boy tractor that was very popular. The company sold that tractor until 1923 when the now legendary John Deere model D tractor was introduced. Those early John Deere tractors are now prized antiques and collectors items.
John Deere Tractors Today – These days the John Deere Company employs 47,000 people in more than 20 countries and the famous green and yellow John Deere tractors can be found hard at work all over the world. The John Deere tractors line up of the 21st century features everything from small and compact utility tractors to large specially made custom tractors that can be customized to suit an individual need. The John Deere company now also produces a line of slightly different, more economically priced tractors that are sold at Home Depot branches.
John Deere Tractors – The Series 1– The least expensive John Deere tractors, the 1 Series, is a recent addition to the John Deere tractors range and is designed especially for residential use. There are currently two available models the and both are so versatile that there is almost no residential landscaping or agricultural task that they cannot tackle. Thanks to a number of different attachments these tractors can be used as front loaders, lawn mowers, backhoes and even as snow blowers.
The engines in both tractors pack quite a lot of power as well. The 1023E has a 23.5 horse power engine and the 1026R has slightly more power at 25.5 horse power. The 1026R also even has cruise control and a deluxe lighting system that allows its owner to continue working after the sun has gone down.
